The village of Florensac, population just under 5000, is situated close to the Mediterranean: within 15 minutes drive are the beaches of Cap d Agde, Vias, Plage Mol and others. Cap d Agde has a first class golf course as does nearby Beziers.
It is just over an hour to the Spanish border and Barcelona is just 3 hours away, the Pyrenees too. Not to be missed is the spectacular French coast line featuring towns such as Collioure and Banyuls. Some 40 minutes away is Montpellier, a bustling, sophisticated city, a mini Paris and an easy walking city, take the little train tour and get to know this wonderful city.
Within easy reach is Carcassonne, the famous walled city, well worth a visit. And of course you are surrounded by vineyards galore to do some winetasting! Within 20 minutes is the medieval Pezenas with its popular Saturday market, narrow streets and quaint shops.
About an hours drive away is St Guilheme le Desert, a tenth century town in the mountains, one of my favourite places to take my own guests.
There is canoeing here and the cave visits. Not far away is Cirque de Navacelle, a spectacular gorge and tiny village at the bottom.
An hour away too are the caves de Rocquefort, visit and taste the world’s greatest cheese! Whilst in the area, stop by and cross the most beautiful bridge in the world, engineered by an englishman. It is stunning. Look the name up, it is MILLAU.
Florensac is served by Beziers/Vias airport, just 20 minutes drive away or there is Montpellier, 40 minutes, Nimes at 60 minutes and Carcassonne at 90 minutes. It has several restaurants (try La Nouria), 2 cafes, snack bars and pizza places, and it’s just 2 minutes to a large supermarket and the local Cave cooperative for the very best and inexpensive wines. For white wine lovers you van enjoy Picpoul de Pinet, unique to this area of France.
On the outskirts of Florensac you will see the Cevennes mountain backdrop. Last but not least, the town of Marseillan is just 10 minutes away. It is the oldest village in France and the recently renovated port area is just lovely with its many restaurants and the headquarters of Noilly Prat, France’s own Martini style drinks. The beach of Marseillan is another 10 minutes further, voted one of France’s best. In the summer months the village is bustling with tourist who frequent the numerous bars and restaurants.
